Global & Domestic State Violence & Humanitarian Crisis
Black Women Organized for Political Action California (BWOPA CA) stands in solidarity with communities experiencing grief, unrest, and humanitarian crises, both here in the United States and around the globe.
From the loss of life and unrest in Minneapolis following fatal ICE-related shootings, to ongoing humanitarian suffering in Nigeria following military action in December, and in Venezuela, where recent U.S. government actions have escalated violence and instability, we are witnessing a shared reality: when state power is exercised without adequate accountability or regard for human life, everyday people, women, children, elders, and working families, pay the highest price.
As a Black women–led organization rooted in justice, humanity, and self-determination, BWOPA-CA affirms that safety, dignity, and access to basic necessities are fundamental human rights, not privileges contingent on geography, immigration status, or political expediency. We are especially mindful that women and caregivers bear the greatest burden in moments of crisis, often serving as first responders within their own families and communities.
BWOPA CA therefore calls for immediate action to strengthen civilian oversight of enforcement agencies, protect California’s sanctuary policies, halt the use of public resources for immigration enforcement operations, and advance humanitarian and human-rights-centered diplomacy as the primary U.S. response to both domestic and international crises.
Our struggles are connected. Accountability must be demanded wherever power is exercised without care for human life.
